A Boy Mom Adventure Through Dún Laoghaire, Ireland: Flowers, FYRE Chicken, Friendship
Our boy mom trip took on the charming town of Dún Laoghaire, and it did not disappoint! With quirky shops, mouth-watering eats, and scenic spots around every corner, this seaside town felt like a perfect escape for moms looking to relax, explore, and maybe taste some spice.
First up on our adventure was a unique little shop that caught our eye: a combination flower-and-tattoo parlor. Yes, you read that right. This place was the perfect mix of tough and tender—exactly what a boy mom needs! We admired the colorful arrangements by the window, and for a moment, we considered getting matching tattoos as a souvenir of our trip. But with our active lives at home, a tattoo decision was too big to make on the spot. Still, this shop became one of those places we couldn’t stop talking about!
Just down the road, we spotted Fyre Chicken, a place known for its American-style buffalo chicken sandwiches. Being a sucker for spicy food, I had to try one. Let me tell you, these sandwiches were hot! As soon as I took a bite, my eyes started watering—exactly the fiery kick I needed. Their fried chicken was perfectly crispy, juicy, and just what we needed to refuel after all that walking.
For dinner, we wandered over to Zero Pizza. If you’re ever craving pizza with a twist, this is the place to be. Their thin crusts, fresh toppings, and cozy vibe were a hit with us. The locals filled the busy pub downstairs, and the hostess treated us to a quiet spot upstairs where we could talk and plan out our next destination over some tasty beer and incredible pizza. We had the margarita pizza and the burrata pizza, and they were both outstanding. The kids would have loved it here, but today, it was all about us.
Dún Laoghaire is also full of tiny grocery shops, each stocked with local goodies, fresh produce, and a mix of international treats. We couldn’t help but pop into a few, browsing for snacks to take home. Each shop had its own charm, and the locals were incredibly friendly, often sharing recommendations for their favorite finds around town.
As we explored, we also discovered that Dún Laoghaire is perfect for walking or even bike riding. The paths are smooth, the views are stunning, and you can easily spend the whole day wandering without getting bored. But then…we encountered the stairs.
These stairs are nestled beside a little lavender-colored house. On a side street just outside the main drag, the owners adorned them with potted plants and quirky garden sculptures. But they looked absolutely treacherous. The steps are narrow and steep, with barely any railings, and the plants and statues, charming as they are, don’t offer much reassurance! We instantly dubbed them the “Danger Stairs” and decided to admire from a distance. A misstep here looked like it could end in disaster, and we joked about who would be brave enough to attempt it.
All in all, Dún Laoghaire was full of surprises, from flower shops with an edge to sandwiches so spicy they’ll make you cry. For any moms looking for a fun, quirky, and walkable town, Dún Laoghaire should be at the top of your list—just watch out for those stairs!
